One of our last wedding videos of 2019, Crantock Bay was an amazing surprise – and has quickly become one of our favourite wedding venues in Cornwall. We haven’t included a lot of hotels as a part of these ‘best wedding venue Cornwall/Devon/Somerset’ series – because (while they’re generally very nice) most of the time they can’t offer anything unique or special. Crantock Bay is different…
Advantages for wedding video – All in One Venue
Crantock Bay is fairly new to weddings, but it’s perfect to capture on film.
Advantages for wedding video – Ceremony
Definitely one of the most impressive ceremony setups we’ve ever filmed in Cornwall. The space is perfect! The chairs look really nice, even with no decoration. We were able to set up in a number of filming locations – a wide shot at the back, a couple shot at the front, and down the aisle – and there were so much space, we could stay completely out of the way from guest view.
It’s worth noting, one of the things that make the location look so spectacular is the open air setup – a perfect, uninterrupted view all the way down to the sea – but for a legal ceremony in the UK, you need a permanent structure… So at Crantock Back, the wedding has two ceremonies – this one, and another (a very short) legal one in a smaller hotel conference room. Honestly, to get this setup, I think that it worked really well – better than having to visit a registry office in advance, and really efficient in terms of time – you also get keep all the emotion of the day!
Advantages for wedding video – Drinks
Once the ceremony is over, guests are literally on the lawn, ready for complimentary drinks. And with the beach and ocean behind you, this is one of the most stunning views you could hope for during this part of the day. A quick confetti run works really well, with the slowly changing height allowing a good shot with the seas behind the couple. Richard and Kyrie headed back to the marquee area after the couples shots – and this was a really nice space for mingling as well.
Advantages for wedding video – Couples and Sunset
This is what blew us away – there’s so much brilliant stuff for video and photo. After the ceremony we headed down to the beach, and even though it was fairly busy, it’s such a large shoreline that we were able to get some footage where the couple looked completely alone. And in most locations, that would be enough, but at Crantock Bay there is far more!
The beach itself isn’t actually ideal for the sunset – it would have definitely looked lovely, but it’s just off axis to get the best light. Instead, if you walk along the coastal path for 5 minutes, you reach 2 amazing areas. Our favourite, and the biggest surprise from all of 2019 – is the cave! Richard and Kyrie were amazing, and didn’t blink at the idea of climbing down.
The light was amazing, and being framed inside the cave was really very special. And secondly, a bit further along the path, there’s a cliff edge that looks straight out at the sea – and in any other location this would have been the nicest looking part of the day! Lol.
Advantages for wedding video – Reception
Richard and Kyrie had their speeches and evening reception back at the marquee, a few minutes walk from the Crantock Bay Hotel. The marquee was really very nice, and working with the photographer, we were able to rig two lights behind the couple during the first dance – it’s the first time we’ve used two and it looked fantastic. It made everyone dancing look really good and worked especially well with our lens whacking!
