It was our first time as wedding videographers at Bickley Mill, Devon. And it would be fair to say we were excited! We’d (obviously) scoped out the venue online for potential wedding filming opportunities – we saw rustic charm, beautiful light, and a kind of timeless character. At James and Emily’s big day, it all came together for a beautiful wedding video – Bickleigh Mill, you did not disappoint!

Bridal Preparations at Bickleigh Mill: Wedding Video Devon
With bucket loads of rustic charm, Bickley Mill, Devon is perfect for wedding video. The bridal suite is spacious, bright and airy – while the exposed wooden beams and antique furnishings make the space feel a little bit special, and more than a little bit refined.

One of our favourite shots from the morning was Emily and her bridesmaids – the giggles and laughter were infection. And Emily’s post ‘I just popped the champagne by accident’ face was excellent!
Wedding Film Ceremony – Bickleigh Mill, Devon
Whether you choose to say “I do” in the historic mill building or amidst the lush greenery of the Bickleigh Mill gardens, the venue’s small, but characterful surroundings provide a unique backdrop for your ceremony wedding video.
James and Emily’s ceremony was truly unique – having ‘legally’ got married years ago, during Covid, they had full flexibility to make this blessing as personalised as they wanted. Which is exactly what they did! Officiated by a friend (their former boss at the graphic design agency where they both met and worked together), with some emotional weight via personal vows – it’s amazing to see a ceremony so closely reflecting everything about the couple.

After Ceremony Drinks at Bickleigh Mill, Devon: A Wedding Videographer’s Dream
There are two main outdoor zones at Bickleigh Mill – mingle on the picturesque terrace or go out on the lawn, beneath the shade of ancient trees, the venue gives a lot of options for group photos and candid shots. As a wedding videographer, it was a lot of fun working with the space and working with the different levels of elevation to capture candids!

Couples Photos and Wedding Video: Romance Amidst Rustic Beauty at Bickleigh Mill, Devon
Couples photos are one of my favourite times during any wedding day, and it’s footage from this time that often starts our films – it’s the two of you at the centre of this story, so the footage starts with the two of you…just being you!
.
For James and Emily’s day, the weather was pretty unpredictable. One moment, removing jackets because of head and the next, running inside to escape heavy showers! Time was short before guests took their seats, so we had to work fast (and hope the weather held until after food).
Heading back out though, the light was perfect! Bickleigh Mill, Devon was obviously lovely from the get go, but it was surprising quite how many options could be found for wedding video candid style couples footage. Areas that looked ‘ok’ to the eye, began to sing in-camera, with a soft hazy backlight. A wooden archway, a small flower bed, the signage, the car park pathway…all more stunning than could have possibly hoped!
Then, taking the leap for something even more adventurous, we headed off a field that the photographer (the ever lovely Emma, at Freckly Photography) had found earlier in the day! Jumping the fence and having some fun with the open space, it was a wonderful 15 minutes, and absolutely worth the trip!
Reception Party: Celebrating in Style
Devon’s Bickley Mill’s character-filled spaces provide the perfect backdrop for your reception party – and there isn’t a wedding videographer more excited for party time than me! The dance floor is small, but itense – and James and Emily’s photo booth had some props that might have made their way to the zone of shape throwing.

When the sun set, the festoon lights along the path was a perfect spot for some final photos. Intimate, warm, surrounded with rustic charm. Bickleigh Mill in a nutshell.
