One of our absolute favourite venues to film at, Nancarrow Farm is a really unique all in one – rustic, authentic and always makes for a stunning video. It has on-site accommodation, a range of outdoor spaces and separate building for ceremony and reception. Set in mid-Cornwall, just outside Truro, it is a real-life working farm (the Nancarrow feast evenings are incredibly popular!) – and it is probably the nicest food we’ve ever had at a wedding!
Advantages for wedding video – Bridal Prep
Nancarrow has a number of cottages/apartments, so bride and groom can get ready separately. We spend more of the morning with the bride, in the largest cottage. It’s a short walk from the ceremony barn, but you can peek outside and get a view of all the guests arriving and making their way there. The large double doors let in the most light, and this is where the majority of prep takes place, with hair and make up choosing a window and setting up camp. The room itself is bright and airy, with a lot of wooden beams and original features.
Advantages for wedding video – Ceremony
It’s an actual barn! It looks amazing on film! There are double doors at either end of the building – and depending on the weather, these can be opened, as well as a side panel, which lets in some more ventilation on very hot days! The wooden ‘look’ and the long benches make for a lovely atmosphere. When the head doors are opened, the light comes in nicely on the bride and groom as well.
Advantages for wedding video – Drinks
There are a number of areas for guests to go, all within a short walk from one another. Straight after the ceremony, the normal plan is to move towards the reception barn for complimentary drinks. As a paved and gravel area, it is nice regardless of the weather – and as a relatively small space, it keeps all the guests together and makes it easy for bride and groom to talk with everybody.
30 metres or so round the corner, there’s a pond which looks lovely in the sunshine – and this is a really good place for group photos. Or in the evening, after the food, guests tend to drift a little further, making use of the field area near to the ceremony barn.
(NOTE – Canapes are amazing. Truly delicious. Honestly, I’m genuinely hungry now)
Advantages for wedding video – Couples
There are some small green spaces within the Nancarrow ground, and these are nice – but our favourite areas are the field next to the main buildings, and the long drive way. These are great because they work much better at different times of the day – for couples photos in the afternoon, when the sun is still high, the long drive is perfect because of the shading and dappled effect. But in the evening, during golden hour, the open field is lovely, and gives a great chance for couples to have some fun and play around. As a quick bonus extra, you can stop off at the outside of the barn as well – the texture of the wood is lovely in camera.
Advantages for wedding video – Reception
The main barn gets turned around for the evening reception. As a space for food and speeches, the long tables feel so communal and make for a great atmosphere. Most people opt for a head table, but we’ve also seen people do speeches from the middle of the room, within the long table setup. When turned around, the dance floor is in the centre of the room. The light still comes in from the large windows, so if it’s the height of summer, it won’t get dark until quite a bit later.
