Filming My Former Student’s Wedding Video, Cornwall

As well as running Babalu Films for the last 15 years, doing wedding videography across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, I spend a lot of my week wearing a different hat – I am a college lecturer. 7 years ago, I moved to Callywith College, Bodmin, and began teaching Toby and Lydia – they were 16 years old, and had been together for a year… last summer I filmed their wedding!!!

As well as being a genuinely heat warming story of young love – it’s even more special for the fact that the couple now RUN THEIR OWN WEDDING PHOTO/VIDEO company! Toby shot his first wedding with me, at the end of his first year of college (he was an excellent second assistant! And genuinely excellent for his age) – and Lydia pursued photography. Now they run Seasons Media together.

Toby and Lydia’s church, Bridge Church in Liskeard, has NEVER held a wedding before! But alongside the couple’s burgeoning wedding videography and photo business, Seasons Media, Toby has also pursued a career as a worship pastor. And Bridge  is where is leads.

After some complex discussions with the registry office, the whole thing was arranged. It was such a wonderful ceremony. None of the usual look and trappings of a church ceremony – ****** is such a vast, open and modern space – it felt more like a music festival!

Much like the ‘first ever’ wedding at a Cornwall church, this was also the first ever wedding reception held at ******! Owned by a friend of Toby’s, he agreed to transform the ENORMOUS barn into a party venue for the ages. Beautiful decoration and striking lighting – no one would have ever known that dozens of lambs were being born in that barn only 7 days before!

The room was huge (useful for 150+ guests) – enormously high ceilings, and big industrial metal doors. But the decorations made it feel special – delicate and bespoke in the large space.

The Greatest Wedding Film Reception Party In All of History (Cornwall)

Wedding films Cornwall capture a party like nothing else. And this was an INCREDIBLE party. Toby is a musician and loves music, so the band absolutely kick things into epic mode – and they did not disappoint. The entire room descended and danced the night away! T

hroats were sore, shapes were massively thrown, ties were fitted to foreheads grooms were hoisted aloft!

You know I love a dance floor – weaving amongst guests and filming, right at the heart of the action. And this particular party ended with something I’ve never done before at a wedding (which is a big deal, 200+ weddings over 15 years!) – a pitch black confetti run, lit only by phone torches!

It sounds crazy, but it was so much fun, and looked amazing in videography clips. Of course, the couple beaming with joy (and going way too fast – which as wedding photgraphers/videographers they should have definitely known!) helped. But I loved how the phone torches created a high key centre frame amongst the dark, and how they light caught the confetti, and how the torches fell off into out of focus ‘bokeh’ in the background.

Night time confetti, for the win!
