We try to keep our wedding video (Devon, Cornwall) packages simple; Gold, Silver, Bronze – and some optional extras. But recently we’ve had a number of people request bespoke packages that are as little different – principally, a discount for the removal for the feature film…
Do you need a feature length wedding film?
We love the feature length films. It has soooooo much more footage that couldn’t make it into the highlight reel, as well as the ceremony, speeches and first dance in full. People often ask about the runtime – it can vary, anywhere between 70-130 mins! (The main factors are the length of speeches, and whether it is a church/civil ceremony).
In most cases though, people will watch the highlight reel far more than the feature film. It’s much quicker to view (at roughly 5 mins) and is likely to illicit many of the same emotions. But even this can vary; we know some couples that watch their feature film every year on their anniversary, while others (like myself) will watch it every few years.
How does the new wedding video package work?
Well, the advantage is that a couple can always come back and ask for the feature film at a later date. It may work out a little more expensive in the long run, but it will save money in the run up to the wedding (when money is generally quite tight!)
Otherwise, everything is the same – the coverage time and the filming on the day will be just as detailed.
The biggest change will be in our workflow. Usually, we run through our footage once and boil it down to what’s ‘good’, then we’ll cut it to music and cut it down to what’s ‘best’. We’ll edit the ceremony, speeches and first dance in their entirety, cutting out sections that we think could be good for the highlight reel. Then we’ll colour grade the wedding film (Cornwall Devon).
The point is, we do about 3-3.5 days of work, and edit nearly the entire feature film before beginning the highlight reel. So not editing the feature film will be a huge change! Much of the same work will still need to be done (working through footage and at lest *viewing* the speeches/ceremony) – but it will save 1-1.5 days worth of time. It will be learning curve, but we’re looking forward to it!
